Mixed-Game Coaching/Hyper-turbo Sitngo Coaching/Hyper-turbo Sitngos Course...!!!

Introduction

I am a long-time high stakes online player across many different games/formats, a current PokerStrategy instructor and former Cardrunners instructor. I have written for various poker magazines as well as producing two books, Secrets of Sitngos and Secrets of Non-standard Sitngos. I graduated Oxford University in 2003 in English Lang/Lit (although I also excelled in mathematics in school) and feel this background combined with my poker experience makes me an excellent choice of coach.

I play as Jackal69 on PokerStars and Jackal78 on Full Tilt, and am Supernova Elite on PokerStars (which adds around 130k per year on top of reported Sharkscope winnings, plus another 10-20k in leaderboard and other bonuses). I have previously offered coaching through CardRunners but have not done so recently due to being occupied with other things. However I now have more free time so would like to begin again and will take applications for new students.

Sitngos

For sitngos I currently play mainly $200+ 6 max hypers and turbos but have adapted successfully over the years to many changes and have won at most formats. I began playing sitngos before there was even a VIP program on Stars and have been around longer than almost anyone. Current results are as follows:

These stats are split across mainly full-ring and six max turbos, and six max hypers, although I have played a decent number of 18 man games as well and Steps and consider myself very strong in those formats too. I generally go where the traffic is, so in terms of sitngos I am currently playing something like 70% 6-max hypers, 20% six max turbos, and 10% everything else.

Non Hold'em/Mixed Games Coaching

I am also offering coaching for non-hold'em/ mixed games which along with sitngos has been my primary focus for the last 3-4 years. I typically play $30/60 to $100/200 on a regular basis but have played as high as $1000/2000 (where I would take 1/3 - 1/2 of my action). My best mixed games are generally draw and hi-lo so for individual game coaching I would recommend working on one of them.

However I have also played a great deal of Limit Hold'em in recent years and a lot of HORSE/8 game/10 game at similar stakes. This combined with a solid background in NL (I used to play a great deal of $5/10 to $25/50, and currently play a lot of $100+MTTs), and PLO which I am mainly playing at the moment alongside sitngos (typically with 30-100bb stacks, $5/10 to $25/50) means I would also be suitable for working with students looking for one coach for 7-10 game reviews, understanding how different concepts translate between games (or don't) and how to adapt knowledge that they already have to new games to ensure a solid foundation.

You can read a couple of recent mixed games articles I have written here:

How Coaching Works

Coaching sessions consist of three main components – theory discussion, hand history review and sweating you whilst you play. Each of these are important and different ways of breaking down your game and by combining and repeating them will allow us to quickly identify leaks in your game and fix them. An initial session should typically last 2 hours and consist of some introductory discussion to establish your situation and goals (you can also email/discuss this beforehand), followed by answering of any questions you may have and then a sweat session followed by review of it to finish (or analysis of hands sent in before). Players are also encouraged to save hands and send them on in advance for discussion at the start of future sessions after which a similar system will be applied. It is also fine to keep in touch via Skype between sessions if you have any pressing issues or need a quick hand check-up and if you send me hands before a session to look at in detail I will do so in preparation for the session proper.

I will be charging the following hourly rates, with a discount of 10% for every 10 hours (i.e. 10th hour free if you get there). If you want longer packages you can contact me to negotiate a better rate. Rates are subject to change if things get busy but will be honored for existing students for the rest of 2012:

Low-Mid Stakes Sitngos (<$199 players) $250
High Stakes Sitngos ($200+ players)$400
Mixed games/ 8-10game (<$20/40 players)$300
High stakes mixed games ($20/40+ players)$500

(If you are unsure which price category you would fall into, contact me and we can work something out).

Sessions will be conducted via teamviewer/Skype and payment instructions will be sent out by pm/email. If you have serious questions or want more info it is preferable to PM as well as posting as I may not check back everyday to the thread if things get busy. Alternatively, you can also visit http://www.philshawpoker.com and fill out the contact form, where you will also find blogs, strategy articles, videos etc, although I check that far less often.

Hyper-turbos Video Series

I have recently produced a video series with Ryan at Yourdoompoker.com titled 'Beating 6-max hyper turbos for fun and profit'. This is a comprehensive guide to beating this format which should enable players to progress to the highest stakes games, and is suitable for most categories of players in the following ways:

  • Recreational players will learn the basics needed to become strong sitngo players and hopefully progress through the stakes quickly by learning to understand the necessities including tools, analysis and poker thinking.

  • Cash/MTT players will learn how to adapt their skills to this format and ICM constraints, and the hyper format itself will provide the best opportunity for them to hit end of year VIP goals and Supernova Elite since at the highest levels it is possible to generate 1500-2000 VPPs per hour, which is far greater than other formats.

  • Low/mid stakes sitngo players will learn how to think like an expert player and move up, benefiting from expert analysis of optimal play tables and how ICM is overridden by other concerns in certain situations.

Here is the outline for my video series...

The cost of the series is €497. This is relatively high, but reflects the lack of information currently available on the format and the potential for significant returns because of this and the new capabilities it will give players to make SNE or their year end bonus targets though more rapid VPP accrual. You may purchase it direct at www.yourdoompoker.com or email support@yourdoompoker.com to arrange pokersite transfer (preferred), which will receive a discount to €485 as it allows us to save on fees.
